About
I’ve been a big fan of movies, ever since I was a little kid. I still remember the first time I went the the movies. I was with my favorite uncle. I still remember looking up at the ceiling of the theater, and thinking it looked like a hockey rink on the ceiling. It’s not much of a stretch to from liking movies to books to television shows and even the theater.   They’re essentially all just different mechanisms for telling a story. Albeit, the tools are a little different the overall intention is quite the same. While there are plenty of purists out there that only read books, or only go to the theater, or believe that the books is always better than the move, I’m not one of them. There are different things I enjoy about each. There’s no doubt that digital technology and special effects have forever changed the movie landscape and allow movie producers and directors to do things you’ll never see on the theater stage. But, that doesn’t mean the you can’t tell good stories in the theater.
In fact, there’s a closeness and personal feeling that the small stage excels at, and the big movie screen can never duplicate. Stories are essentially all about human experiences, and have the human story tellers in the same room, and breathing the same air as the audience is something digital technology has yet to master. And of course books are really a medium with no limitations. Except the readers imagination that is. And, give the width and breath of human accomplishments, it’s hard to believe that anyone’s imagination has any limits what so ever. Books can take us to any country, planet, or galaxy imaginable, while at the same time build and mold incredible characters with a depth and history that no 2 hour movie or play can hope to. We understand the characters in our books at such a personal and intimate level, that we truly feel what they feel.
I hope this blog can touch on some of my favorite movies, plays, TV shows and books through it’s discussions. And you reader, can add to that experience by adding your own comments and participating in this wonderful discussion of story telling.
