As there are more and more high-definition movies being streamed from the internet by media-streaming services like Netflix and Hulu to their 25 million subscribers, the question is how it will affect the popularity of Blu-Ray digital video discs. How will high-definition Blu-Ray movies score against those being streamed to millions of living rooms?

Blu-Ray formatted movies have an edge over older video formats and it is unlikely that they will go away anytime soon. The reason for this is that millions of videophiles still prefer high-quality video and the state-of-the-art features that Blu-Ray players and disc provide.

Even the best services like Netflix that boasts high-definition transmission actually stream at only 1 mbps, up to 10 mbps at best, and viewed with hdmi cable for advanced use. That is roughly the equivalent of a standard DVD video playing at around 4 to 8 mbps.

On the other hand, a Blu-Ray disc can crank pixel resolutions up to 36 mbps, with image texture so clear that you can almost count the few strands of hair on Gollum’s scalp in Lord of the Rings.

Like DVD’s that have tremendously dropped in sales, Blu-Ray formatted movies are not expected to last forever. Streamed movies will eventually overtake Blu-Ray video discs when 100-mbps internet access becomes a reality.

Movies have become really expensive to go to, especially with the 3D craze that has seized Hollywood films in recent years. Some people pay more than $10 for a regular movie ticket in an average theater, and an extra $3 for 3D glasses if the movie is offered in 3D. America has become a 3D nation somehow, it seems, that expects a good movie experience to involve that three dimensional extra aspect that makes it all worth paying for. Unfortunately, there are some pretty bad movies coming out of Hollywood these days in 3D, and when you see one of those, it turns your attitude toward 3D movies around a little and wakes you up to smell the coffee of the situation we are facing. – While it can be disappointing to see a poorly done 3D movie that you’ve paid a premium price for in a theater, the next disappointment appears to be the spreading of the 3D contagion to home television sets and video game consoles. 3D television is already making its appearance in big box retail stores and electronics departments around the United States, to lukewarm reception, it seems, at least this early on. After all, we are just now getting used to the whole High Definition standard. Some stations are not even broadcasting in HD yet, so why do we think everyone is going to suddenly get on board with 3D? I’m not convinced that’s a reasonable idea at all. For one thing, I don’t generally enjoy the whole 3D experience, and I tend to prefer 2D visuals in movies and television. 3D gives me a headache. I wear glasses, too, and contacts are getting harder for me to wear since I need bifocals now, so when I watch 3D I have to wear one pair of glasses over another pair and that just isn’t very much fun really. I can’t imagine having to go through all that in my own home just to watch the latest episode of “The Big Bang Theory,” or “The Office.” What’s there to really see in 3D on any of those? And will this lead to the deliberate creation of 3D elements in television production, just to keep up, when it’s not really warranted? Will it degrade the quality of the art? I think yes. So, while the verdict is still out for the majority of TV enthusiasts, and yes, there are some 3D TVs that don’t require the donning of any glasses at all, I can tell you that I don’t plan to be one of them. At least not anytime soon.

Need a horror fix that’s guaranteed to scare the pants off you? Then you are in luck. The newest horror franchise will return to theaters on October 21 this year with its third and latest installment. Hot on the heels of its moneymaking predecessors, Paranormal Activity 3 is just in time for Halloween, and this time around, the scare factor will be provided by “Catfish” pseudo-documentary directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. “Disturbia” writer Chris Landon wrote the screenplay.

Paranormal Activity became a phenomenal success at the box-office. The next year, it was quickly followed by a sequel that, much like the original, left its viewers in shock after witnessing the demonic possession of siblings Katie and Kristi. The Tod Williams-helmed Paranormal Activity 2 has to date grossed more than $156 million internationally. The 2009 original hit directed by Oren Peli has earned over $193 million.

The third installment takes the audience back to 1988 when it all started. The movie depicts how the sisters, through a childhood game, have unsuspectedly invited the demonic entity into their lives.

The filmmakers are still keeping a lot of details in the dark, but it is safe to assume that if the latest installment can surpass or even equal its predecessors, then we can expect a lucrative franchise in the same league with Saw and Nightmare on Elm Street.

The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn is a forthcoming Steven Spielberg feature film based on a well-liked Belgian comic book hero created by Georges Remi, more popularly known to his fans as Hergé. Jamie Bell provides the voice of Tintin, a fearless junior reporter whose constant search for sensational news stories and knack for inviting trouble takes him to risky escapades all over the world.

The 3D movie is the first in a much-awaited series of digital performance-capture films based on Hergé’s iconic character. Depending on the movie’s outcome at the tills, two more Tintin flicks are lined up for production. The next one is scheduled to be helmed by Lord of the Rings trilogy director Peter Jackson. The third would have both Spielberg and Jackson as directors.

Sony and Paramount is expected to release the TinTin Movie on late October and early November this year. US release, meanwhile, is scheduled on December 2011.

There have been motion picture adaptations as well as animated TV series based on the young intrepid reporter, but regrettably they were not able to create a splash big enough to make them memorable. While its trailer packs a lot of promise, it still remains to be seen whether Spielberg’s recent movie adaptation will succeed in bringing Tintin’s character back into the public mind or not.

The film is set in 1875 at the New Mexico Territory where a stranger played by Daniel Craig stumbled upon the deserted town of Absolution. Craig has no memory of his past and struggles to regain his memories bit by bit. His only hint to his past is the mysterious shackle he is wearing on his wrist. As he enters the town, he came into the unfortunate realization that Absolution does not really welcome strangers. Colonel Dolarhyde, played by Harrison Ford, is the iron-fisted Colonel that runs the town. No one in Absolution will make a move unless the colonel ordered them to. It appears that the whole town has been living in fear but what they don’t know is that their town is about to be invaded by marauders from the sky. The poor townspeople will be attacked and abducted by space monsters that will challenge everything they have ever known.

Ironically, the stranger they tried to chase away from their town appears to be their only hope for salvation. Craig slowly regains his lost memories and begin to unlock the secret behind the wrist shackle he is wearing, which serves as the only fighting chance of the residents to defeat the aliens. Now, the stranger and townspeople must work together to prevent their annihilation. With the aid of Ella, played by Olivia Wilder, who is an elusive traveler, Zeke Jackson (Craig) forms a posse composed of Colonel Dolarhyde and the townspeople who was once his opponent. The townspeople unite with the Zeke to prepare an epic showdown to fight for their survival. The movie is expected to hit the theatres on the 29th of July, so be sure to mark that date on your calendar.

In this film, the four lead casts of the Inbetweeners sitcom – Will, Simon, Jay and Neil – will have an exciting adventure as lads on their holiday vacation at Malia with no parental guidance. For the first time, the four boys will have their adventure on their own with no parents and teachers to monitor them. The movie is expected to have the allure and humor of the sitcom, which basically is the reason for the sitcom’s popularity.

Most of the TV series regulars, like Belinda Stewart Wilson, and Greg Davies, will reprise their roles in the film. They will be joined by newcomers Jessica Knappett, Tamla Kari, Laura Haddock, which will play the role of the love interest of the three boys – Jay, Simon and Neil, respectively.

The four boys will embark on an outrageous and exhilarating adventure on the big screen which you should definitely check out once the film is shown on theaters on the 19th of August. Let’s hope that the movie will be able to meet everyone’s expectations, and not turn out to be a major disappointment. But with the combined creativity of director Ben Palmer and Christopher Young (producer), this sitcom-turned-movie definitely has the potential to be a hit.

The movie stars James Franco (Spiderman), Freida Pinto, Brian Cox, Andy Serkis, Tom Felton and John Litgow.

The film is about the story of Will Rodman (played by actor James Franco) who is caught in the middle of an epic battle between man and apes. Rodman is a scientist, working under a pharmaceutical company, who developed a benign virus capable of repairing damaged brain tissues. The virus Will is developing as he claims is a possible cure for Alzheimer’s which is a disease afflicting his father. The company, where Will was working, had to shut down the program since during the research Will’s test subjects displayed aggressive behavior towards the virus being developed. However, among his research subjects Will found an overlooked male Chimpanzee, named Caesar, who responds well to the gene therapy he was developing. Will decided to take charge with Caesar’s care and continued with his research. Caesar displayed exemplary progress, while Will found out that the therapy has extraordinary side effects. The chimpanzee he is raising started showing cognitive skills that have exceeded that of its human counterpart.

Rupert’s film centers on man’s primal fear of the world being taken over by another species, in this case the apes. If you want to know how the movie will play out, and who will win the fight man versus apes, then be sure to head to the nearest theater when the movie is shown on the 5th of August.

I was thinking about how we all like to personalize our computers, and I was struggling to come up with an analogy in the real non-digital world. It’s kind of a funny thing we do where we take a very generic machine that is intended to do multiple repetitive tasks ad nausea and make it a unique individual highly personalized item. It’s kind of like were in denial about what the real purpose of the machine is. We add backgrounds, themes, wallpapers, customizations, and case mods to make it more our own. I’m not exactly sure, how sensual wallpapers or Inna wallpapers do that, but for some it seems to work.

The closest comparison I could come up with was how many car owners like to customize their automobiles. It’s a hobby that’s been going on for years, and continues to this day. I must admit, to not being immune to the whole activity. I also have a fascination for pretty screen savers, backgrounds and wallpapers. I love some good eye candy, whether it’s in a computer game, a movie, or just digital images in my photo collection. That’s usually I guy thing I think, as we seem to be more attracted to visual effects. Not sure why it is that guys like big explosions better than girls, but I’m sure there’s a perfectly good explanation for it.

If you’re looking for a film that will really hit your right, then this is the film for you. Everybody’s Fine is a touching story that’s really much closer to home. Those who watched this film must’ve decided or contemplated on leaving their homes to visit the kids. The film depicted the reality of being old and alone on Christmas. This film gave the simple truth about family and loved ones that surely depressed the audience towards the end. Although Everybody’s Fine didn’t receive much audience, De Niro’s superb and reserved acting certainly saved the film and one of the must watch movies of 2009 – if you’re the sentimental type.

Everybody’s Fine is actually a remake of the Italian film Stanno Tutti Bene which literally means ‘They’re All Fine’ that was released in 1990 and directed by Giuseppe Tornatore. The 2009 version stars Robert De Niro as Frank Goode, Drew Barrymore as Rosie, Kate Beckinsale as Amy and Sam Rockwell as Robert. It was written and directed by Kirk Jones.

Frank Goode is excited for his children’s visit for the holidays that he decides to buy a brand new grill and expensive wine and readies everything around the house when they suddenly canceled their visits one by one. He knows that all his children are successful in their respective fields because his wife, when she was still alive, has been boasting about their achievements so they must have some valid reasons for canceling. So Frank then decides that if his kids can’t visit him he’ll go and visit them against his doctor’s advice that travel will not be good for his health. He first visits David, the painter, at his apartment New York City which wasn’t as luxurious as his wife had told him. Nevertheless, he waited for his son at his doorstep but to no avail but he was able see David’s painting at a local art gallery.

His next stop was to his daughter Amy who tells him it’s a bad time to visit but insisted in going anyway. Frank realized that his grandson is not really sick as to what Amy told him as the reason for the canceled visit. The next day Frank accompanied Amy to her office before he goes on to visit Robert to watch him conduct the orchestra. The film then cuts into a phone conversation between the siblings and agreed that nobody should mention about David whom they believe is in some kind of trouble in Mexico. Frank realizes that Robert was not really a conductor but a percussionist. Robert also tells him that it’s a bad time for a visit so within hours Frank leaves to visit Rose who then explained to him that they told their mother the truth about their lives but she decided to exaggerate the story to not disappoint him knowing how demanded a father he was. Drew Barrymore certainly gave justice to her role no matter how small it was.

Frank flies home saddened by the truth about his children and has a heart attack. While on a hospital bed his children reveals the truth about his dead son David. The movie ends with the whole family at Franks home for Christmas.

Do you still remember back in the day when television sets were still on the top of tables or the bulky cabinets that came along when buying the actual television? We rarely see that picture now in our homes, because the new trends today are television brackets.

Let’s face it; people spend an average of 32.7 hours per week in front of their television (according to www.podcastingnews.com). Since people seek for comfort and more space around their apartment, condominium or house, they tend to hunt for new ideas in magazines and television, to save room. Also, add a more modern feel to their home.

Here is an idea of what television brackets are. Imagine your television somehow attached to your wall in the living room or bedroom. When you want to change positions from that room you can change the angle of which your television is facing. (Of course, depending on the type of television bracket you purchase, because some mounts have limited flexibility). You can find yourself actually moving your television in different directions, upwards, downwards and even in full rotations depending on your own “comfort zone” position.

Let us think of advantages. If you were to ask me, when I watch television I consider the following: First, the area I place the unit in. I’d want it placed in an area where I could find my peace while watching my favorite show. Secondly, I’d think about the space it would occupy in the room I place it in. Who doesn’t want more floor space right? I’d also love the idea that I can give my television area an edgy feel to it, since we all think of modernization. With these advantages in mind, can the television bracket conquer? Yes, of course! I could place the bracket on the wall and while moving around and changing positions I could navigate the mount to my preferred view. It is definitely a floor space saver since it is mounted on the wall. No worries about the hassle of bumping into the large, bulky table the television is placed on. Since LCD televisions are getting a lot more popular, LCD television brackets are also a crowd-pleaser. The brackets come in a wide range of colors, which you could choose to easily match the surroundings of your home.

Like I said in the beginning, not all television brackets have the capability of full rotation and flexibility. The “Low-Profile” TV mount for instance, is the easiest to install and costs less compared to the tilting and full-motion television mounts. The downside of this type is that they don’t tilt. A mount that does tilt is termed as the “Tilting Wall Mount.” It does cost a little more than a low-profile wall mount but you could adjust it to a vertical view angle. Installation isn’t too mind boggling, so this is usually preferred for people who are on a tight budget and want some form of flexibility. Lastly, there is the “Full-Motion Wall Mount.” It is fully equipped with the ability of full flexibility for the person’s own convenience. This type of television mount is a bit costly but it definitely pays off. It includes a moving piece — the arm, which is used for the variety of angles it provides. Installation is a little tougher; you might want 2-3 people to help you out. In terms of its motion, it’s a winner. It is capable of adjusting the view in both horizontal and vertical angles.

Before actually buying a television bracket, you should really do some more research online or ask around in different stores who know more about it. If you want a more hip and convenient way to watch television, try installing a television bracket in your home. It will cost money, but with the right and secure brand and also care of the device, it will do wonders for you and give you a different perspective in watching television.
