LCD HD TVs are very good at what they do. However, there is a marked difference in quality between most sets that use this technology. Contrary to conventional Tvs that used CRT screens were picture quality was not an issue with most sets, LCD sets vary drastically depending on the model, brand and features. It is nor a surprise that products from known brands have a tendency to look good while those that are manufactured from unknown brands tend to look awful. Even televisions from know brands have underperformed in some cases. So how can you tell if an LCD HD Tv is a good product or one of questionable quality. Simple.

The first thing that you should do is go to your local store and take a look at the LCD HD Tvs that are on display there. You need visual evidence to determine if a set is good or not. Take a look at how the image looks when there is movement. Do moving objects look jagged around the edges? Is ghosting observed? Do pixels look as they remain stuck? Does the picture look grainy?

Now pay attention to colors and contrast. Do they look solid? Do black colors look like they are emitting a faint glow? Does the picture appear flat? It is very important to pay close attention to black colors. If a set has poor blacks that tend to look more than gray imagine how the picture will look if you use the television in a dark room.

These are the basic questions that are used to determine the picture quality of an LCD HD Tv. If you answer yes to many of these questions you should stay away from that set. Remember that some artifacts are randomly introduced into the image. If edges on an object suddenly distorts a little but return back to normal the problem could be elsewhere like a poor signal source but if it is too persistent then it is a real problem. The best testing materials are movies particularly action or adventure movies with lots of fast moving scenes but if your store has something else on it is okay.
