To The Victor Go The Spoils

The athletic accomplishments in my illustrious 47 years, have been far and few in between.  I like to think, that it’s not really my fault, as my family was never big on sports as I was growing up.  It’s not that there’s no athletic skills in these bones, it’s just that they’ve been in hiding for a long time.  Well, there was that time in grade 7, when my brother and I almost made the ping pong doubles school team, but lost to a bunch of undeserved underdogs.  My brothers fault (choke choke) of course, but that’s a story for another day.  Anyway, as of late, I do actually have a rather crowning tale of athletic achievement to speak of.  The kind good enough to deserve bronze plaques made up to remember the occasion.

It took place in the game of squash ( my main athletic endeavor these days).  Now if you don’t know the game, you need to wipe any assumptions of a sport only played by the likes of Fraiser and Niles Crane.  This is in fact one of the most demanding physical activities you can partake in.  Anyway, my team this year won the city championship for the first time in my squash league career.  I’ve played city league for 4 years, and it’s been about 8 years, since my club has won in this division.  We had a so-s0 season, and barely made the playoffs.  But, that was enough.  We took down the number one team in the semi-finals, and crushed our same club rivals in a tough finals grudge match.  It was great fun.
